HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

 

 

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR A MARYLAND HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA (Minimum of 22 credits):

 

All students seeking a Maryland High School Diploma must complete the following requirements:

                Credits

                    4          English Language Arts              Program Choice                      

3          Social Studies                               2 credits in Foreign Language, or

                    4          Mathematics                               2 credits in an approved Advanced Technology Sequence, or               

                    3          Science                                        4 credits in a State approved Career & Technology Completer Program 

                    1          Physical Education                     1-3 Electives

                   .5          Health                                        22 TOTAL REQUIRED CREDITS                                        

                    1          Fine Arts                                   ADDITIONALLY, STUDENTS MUST PARTICIPATE        

                    1          Technology Education              IN ALL REQUIRED HIGH SCHOOL ASSESSMENTS,

                                                                                 SATISFY WORLD OF WORK AND STUDENT SERVICE

                                                                                 LEARNING REQUIREMENTS. 

 

HIGH ROAD ACADEMY PROGRAM CHOICES FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES NINE, TEN, AND ELEVEN:

General Academic Requirements: 

High Road Academy students in grades 9-12  are required to take core academic courses for credit in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. One half credit will be offered for Health and  1 credit in  P.E.   One credit in Tech Ed will be offered in addition to two credits in Advanced Technology.  Electives for Reading will be offered in grades 9-12.

PATHWAYS TO GRADUATION:

 

Students entering grade nine at High Road Academy will have the availability to embark on one possible pathway to graduation with a Maryland High School diploma.  The approval of the pathway will be made by the IEP Team, which includes parents, student, and local school system representatives at the Annual Review meeting.  A “Four Year High School Plan” will be developed and approved by both parent and student.

 

                Foreign Language Completer:            AVAILABLE THROUGH PUBLIC SCHOOL PROGRAM.

 

                Cooperative Work Experience Completer:  AVAILABLE THROUGH PUBLIC SCHOOL PROGRAM.

 

Advanced Technology Completer Program:   AVAILABLE AS COMPLETER OPTION AT HIGH ROAD ACADEMY.  Software Applications I  (Technology Education Requirement) followed by Software Applications II and Software Applications III.    

 

STUDENT SERVICE LEARNING REQUIREMENTS:   The Maryland State Board of Education stipulates that all students in Maryland public schools must complete a student service learning requirement in order to earn a high school diploma.  A total of  75 hours must be accrued for graduation.  High Road Academy offers projects and other activities to assist in completion of this requirement.  Hours earned outside of High Road Academy must be formally documented for approval by High Road Academy.
